Microsoft shows a demo of its new Windows Phone 7 software
Microsoft unveiled its next generation Windows Phone 7 software at an event in New York. Microsoft demonstrated several new features of the phone and the updated software code-named Mango.
The demo showed users the phone's key features like a smoother integration with social networking applications like Facebook and Twitter, multitasking capabilities, and a built in voice recognition technology.
Mango, the smart phone updated software, is specially designed to make the smartphones more user friendly. Microsoft's Bing search engine was also showcased. The search engine's capability to Local Scout will attract users who need information on local restaurants, shopping and activities. The Quick Cards feature provides a summary of relevant information when users are looking for a product or a movie.
The updated software can be used on existing phones. Microsoft's Andy Lees has said in an interview that Microsoft will focus on building an ecosystem for the consumer. The software won't change for users who want predictability in their Windows phones. Fragmentation will never be an issue for Windows smart phones.
The software update will make it easier to switch between various applications like text, Facebook or Windows Live Messenger. Group contacts can be personalized. There will be linked inbox and deeper social media integration. Users can now text hands free because of the voice to text support.
Applications will be more closely integrated with the phone. The new Mango release will also surface apps as part of search results. App Connect will connect apps to search results. Live Tiles has been improved to get real time information without having to open apps.
Internet browsers will also get an upgrade since IE 9 will soon be released. Bing provides more ways to search the web. Microsoft also has new OEM partners in ACER, Fujitsu and ZTE.
