Microsoft Surface 2 Pro is a Full Power PC: Why it Is Better than the First Generation
Microsoft's Surface RT just recently received an update. Just this week, the company announced the follow-up to their x86 / Windows 8-compatible tablet, the Surface Pro 2. The device still comes with as stylus although this time it has better resolution at 50 percent improved color accuracy.
Along with the upgrade, Microsoft also claims that their new Surface Pro 2 offers enhanced graphics, better speed and excellent speaker setup. According to Microsoft, the new Surface Pro 2 is 20 percent faster compared to the first generation.
Microsoft maintained the same display for the second generation. The device still sports a 10.6-inch panel at 1080p. The display has been ported to the latest Surface 2. Microsoft decided to equip the latest device with Intel's 1.6GHz Core i5 Haswell processor.
This means their slate offering can now run much quieter and with more battery life. Including the Haswell chipset meant 75% improvement on the battery life of the Surface 2 Pro line. Users can pair the device with Microsoft's new Power Cover. This provides the tablet an independent battery source. There is also the Type Cover 2 which now comes with backlit and slimmer design at 1mm.
The kickstand also comes with a new design for this edition. It now offers a two-stage affair. This caters to previous feedback about the awkward angle of the Pro. Microsoft claimed that the Surface Pro 2 additionally includes ports like mini Display Port, Ethernet, one USB 3.0, three USB 2.0, charging and audio in / out.
People can get up to 3840 x 2160 resolution when they dock the Surface Pro 2. It can also edit 6k videos when switched to external display. This supports the company's claim that the slate is in fact a "full power PC."
Microsoft has announced the two new generations of the Surface tablets last September. They are expected to hit stores by Oct. 22. Available configurations include 512GB / 8GB RAM. Microsoft has been struggling in the tablet market since their release of the original surface. Fortunately, reviews about the second line, particularly the Surface Pro 2, have been favorable.
