It is already compelling that the much-awaited Windows 10 release date will happen at around the same time that the rumoured Surface Pro 4 tab will touchdown this summer 2015. Microsoft, however, can still sweeten the deal by deploying irresistible feature upgrades with the device.

Across the board specs jump

Microsoft is selling the Surface Pro as a can-do-all machine, touting even the device as a laptop replacement – great for productivity and even greater during downtime moments like gaming and watching movies. However, not all the Surface Pro tabs are created equal as specs varies depending on price points.

In order to lure in more buyers and switchers – from laptop and other tablet users – the Pro 4 needs to convince that it is indeed the ultimate mobile machine and able to do nearly all conceivable computing tasks. This will happen if the starting components stuffed with the device are the best minimum available. Say the Intel Core M processor that is mighty but not a power-hog chip and a basic 8GB RAM provision that will ensure the Pro 4 will easily handle multi-tasking at an extended time.

Better accessories

Along the line of being a solid laptop replacement, Microsoft must make sure that the companion products designed with the Surface Pro 4 are not must-haves but also are delightful to use. For instance, the Type Cover that came with the Pro 3 could use significant improvements that will spike up the consumer appeal of the upcoming version, according to Design & Trend.

The same cover badly needs a keyboard that is a delight to type on as the present build is not necessarily conducive to productivity. And if Microsoft indeed plans to further integrate stylus use with the Pro 4, best to make the experience more convenient by redesigning the device with a built-in slot ala Galaxy Note.

Accessible pricing

And to convince laptop users that switching to the Surface Pro 4 is wise thing to do, the sticker price needs some sort of pulling down. The idea is to win the argument that paying a premium of $100, for example, is worth every penny instead of getting a regular laptop at a lower price. The basic model at $800 is a hard sell if shoppers can get a competing laptop that pretty much will do everything that the Surface Pro can at a better price point.

A Surface Pro Mini option

Why not dangle a bonus by offering the Surface Pro in a compact, the same way that Apple sells the iPad Air (and possibly the iPad Pro) with the iPad Mini. The Pro will reportedly retail in 12-inch and 14-inch editions, which exactly how tablet business users would want their devices – screaming large screen with plenty of real estate to work on.

But a segment of the tablet market want the toned down display, which explains the existence of iPad Mini and Android small tablets. Microsoft is passing up a big revenue source by opting out of the Surface Pro Mini again, which has whispered about since last year.

According to Microsoft, Windows 10 is ready launch come summer time this 2015. Likely, the Surface Pro 4 release date will happen within the same time frame, making the device to showcase the re-engineered and multi-platform operating system.
