Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date, news & update: Microsoft unlikely to release device without Windows 10 Redstone 2 update
The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will reportedly cost $100 more than its predecessor Surface Pro 4. Microsoft has not revealed anything about its upcoming, widely-anticipated device. It may or may not reveal something in the upcoming October event. The tech giant will be hosting a Windows 10 Devices event in October.
As per The Bitbag, the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will cost a $100 more as it will be including the Intel Kaby Lake processor. The device will also run on the upgraded Windows 10 OS. The company has a lot of features planned for the device. The Intel processors will boost battery life, a requirement that every Surface fan is craving for.
The Intel Kaby Lake processor brings native USB support whereas the Skylake ones need third-party hardware for USB support. The new processors are expected to make the size of Surface Pro 5 handier. The processors will also enable 4K tech and support a 3,840×2,160 pixels UHD display.
Nothing is official at this point though Microsoft launched the Surface Pro 4 device in October 2015. The company is holding the Windows 10 event in October this year too. This has made tech enthusiasts and fans excited because of the possibility of a Surface Pro 5 and Surface Phone 2016 announcement. However, it is unlikely that the device will be launched in October.
There are several hints that Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will be launched only in 2017 and not this year. Even though Intel has released low power Y and U Kaby Lake processors, Microsoft wants to include the most powerful processor form Intel and for that it will have to wait till end of this year.
Microsoft is also working on the Windows 10 update, Redstone 2, which is expected to be ready by spring of 2017. It is unlikely that Microsoft will release the Surface Pro 5 without the Redstone 2 update. This again points at a 2017 release.
There are reports that Microsft, during the October event, will simply refresh the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book, replacing the processors and implementing minor upgrades.
