Microsoft announced that the boosted Surface Pro tablet 128GB model had sold out online and in stores.

"We're working with our retail partners who are currently out of stock of the 128GB Surface Pro to replenish supplies as quickly as possible," said Surface product chief Panos Panay in a blog post last Saturday.

The larger model of the Surface sold out almost immediately online, and some stores reported that customers were lined up outside of Microsoft, Best Buy and Staples locations in the US which reminds us of Apple launches. But once customers got to many of those stores, particularly partner retailers, they found that Microsoft had only shipped a handful of the tablets to go on shelves.

This led to speculations that Microsoft is pulling off an LG Nexus 4-like demand by limiting the supply of the device in order to create a high demand. However, Microsoft may have been working to keep itself out of a different supply pickle by putting too many Surface Pros onto shelves and having to suffer the embarrassment of seeing them languish there.

Microsoft will battle against Apple's recently upgraded version of iPad 4 bumped with huge 128 GB storage capacity. The tablet will have a capacity of 128GB compared with the current model, which comes with 16GB, 32GB or 64GB. Nothing else has changed, so this remains a fourth-generation iPad rather than an entire new model.

The Cupertino-based company's latest tablet boasts a new A6X processor, faster Wi-Fi performance, and the 8-pin Lightning connector. The new models cost in at $799 for the Wi-Fi only, or $929 for the version with 4G LTE connectivity. That is $100 more than the 64GB model, which is $100 more than the 32GB model, which is $100 more than the 16GB iPad. The end result is that Apple can make a healthy profit on those buying the top-of-the-line model, with nearly all of it coming from the storage.

Cheaper Price - The full size iPad WiFi only and WiFi + 4G/LTE cost $499 and $629, respectively. The new models cost in at $799 for the Wi-Fi only, or $929 for the version with 4G LTE connectivity compared to Microsoft's hefty price tag of $999.
