Microsoft Will Release Windows 10 For Phones Custom ROM To Convert Android OS Devices Into Windows 10 Devices
Microsoft is looking forward to gain huge market share with the launch of Windows 10 for phones. The much anticipated new operating system for Windows Phone devices is expected to release in summer. On March 17, Microsoft made an announcement in China that it has built a custom ROM for testing purpose that will allow Android devices to run the new Windows 10 for phones.
According to Tech Crunch, Microsoft has already started the trial run of the custom ROM on Xiaomi 4 smartphones. The Redmond giant is not entering any sort of partnership deal with Xiaomi, but the Chinese smartphone manufacturing company is assisting Microsoft in its venture of running Windows 10 for phones on Android.
A selected group of Xiaomi 4 owners have been asked to flash their devices to install the new Windows 10 operating system. It will be just like running a custom ROM like CyanogenMod but the ROM built by Microsoft will be totally based on Windows 10 and it is aimed towards replacing the Android OS.
The Tech Crunch report further adds that when a user will restart the handset after installing the Windows 10 for phones custom ROM, there will be no trace of the Android OS. The handset will function like a full-blown Windows 10 device and it will provide access to all the apps and services from the Redmond giant.
By lauunching the custom ROM, Microsoft aims to port its new operating system to more number of smartphones and tablets. The ultimate aim for launching the Windows 10 custom ROM is that Microsoft wants Android users to switch to its new OS without investing on a new device.
Microsoft’s move to approach a Chinese smartphone maker to try the new ROM is only because Chinese users prefer to use custom ROMs rather than using the Android OS. Unlike the Android OS provided by Google, custom ROMs provide access to some of the most desired apps that are usually restricted for download through the official Google Play Store.
