Microsoft's Azure Cloud becomes a crime fighting tool in the US
They'll develop an integrated approach to capturing and managing crime investigation evidence
Microsoft and Taser International, the firm better known for its Taser stun guns, have reached a deal to fight crime and support law enforcement agencies in the U.S. by combining their technologies.
The partnership will combine the capabilities of Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform and Windows 10 devices with Taser’s Axon Platform and Evidence.com solution. The Axon platform consists of body cams worn by police and other digital evidence management tools.
Axon’s Azure integration is expected to be available for preview later this year and be publicly available to all law enforcement agencies by the first quarter of 2016. All Axon customers will have the option to move their data to Microsoft Azure Government at no additional cost.
Microsoft and Taser will develop an integrated approach to capturing and managing crime investigation evidence. This approach includes ingesting, retrieving, sharing, analyzing and archiving video, sensor and other data to support law enforcement and criminal justice officials.
This deal will also provide security-enhanced digital evidence management experience. The partners will further collaborate on market development and new solutions to fight crime in the U.S. and around the world.
Microsoft is the only major cloud provider in the U.S. with a deal that supports the FBI’s CJIS Security Policy with its law enforcement customers.
Taser founder and CEO Rick Smith noted that Microsoft Azure is well known for its industry-leading security and reliability.
“With it, we can provide the most secure and compliant cloud capability to our customers. I’m also excited to announce that the new partnership offers future opportunities for Axon customers to leverage even more cutting-edge technologies with Microsoft’s expertise in data analytics, machine learning and computer vision”, he said.
