It looks like Microsoft is only going to work with AT&T when it comes to launching its latest flagship smartphones in the United States. Apparently, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless aren’t interested in selling Microsoft's newest mobile devices.

Microsoft has just unveiled the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL. Although AT&T previously revealed it will offer the Lumia 950, there’s been no word regarding its sibling.

These two devices are actually the first ones from Microsoft powered by Windows. They’re also the first marquee products under the Microsoft brand. As it turns out, these phones boost the Redmond-based tech giant's efforts aimed at keeping Windows relevant in today's constantly developing smartphone industry, as pointed out by CNET.

Although it may seem like Microsoft and AT&T have a special deal, another CNET report confirms the contract is actually non-exclusive. It seems Microsoft was also in talks with other major U.S carriers but the others didn’t seem to be interested in the products it has to offer.

Being able to launch on various U.S. carriers would have led to a much wider distribution to more potential customers. Over the past several years, this has been the goal of various gadget makers such as HTC, Samsung, LG and Apple. Each of these top tech companies have made it a point to sell their smartphones across multiple mobile carriers in the U.S.

On the plus side, Microsoft's partnership with AT&T can help in building "connected table" displays that show off how Lumia units connect with PCs powered by Windows, in addition to Surface Pro tablet devices.

"Partnering with AT&T is executing on that focus -- on areas where Microsoft believes it can win”, said Tuula Rytila, Microsoft's head of phone marketing. "We are very happy to work with them".
