Miley Cyrus' Film, 'LOL,' Gets No Love
Miley Cyrus latest film, "LOL," is getting no love at all.
While Miley's fans may have hit the cinemas over the week, their efforts were not enough to beat the box office record of her last project, "Hannah Montana Movie". So what's the final score of Miley's coming-of-age film?
Former Disney stars are just about itching to shed their good girl image and engage in some heavy drama involving drugs, booze and sex. While Selena Gomez upcoming flick, "Spring Breakers" is as close to all that's mentioned, Miley Cyrus' "LOL" is pretty much the same. Though "Spring Breakers" is set of a 2013 release, the hype for it is quite high in comparison to "LOL". Cyrus' film has already been released in over 100 theatres in the US contrary to the original deal of Lionsgate airing it worldwide.
Did "LOL" make it to the top despite being released in only a hundred theaters? Apparently, it has not got any love at all. Miley Cyrus and Demi Moore's film managed to rake up only $46,500 dollars over the weekend. According to Movie City News, the total amount works up to only $440 dollars each theater which ironically is the price of an iPad2.
In a post by the L.A. Times, Miley's film should have gone straight into DVD productions but because of the contract, the film had to be shown domestically. Miley might not have given her say on the decision but director, Liza Azuelos, opened up on Lionsgate's decision to abandon the movie.
"I really thought this movie could be universal," said Liza in an interview.
"Usually teen movies are tender or scary or have vampires in them, but they're never realistic. This story isn't too dirty and not too stupid." added the director.
Thankfully, even if Lionsgate has lost all its love for "LOL," fans of Miley continue to flock to the cinemas to catch a glimpse of the 18-year-old actress. Despite harsh criticisms on Miley's racy new film, Miley isn't letting any of the fan hate get to her.
"Thank u so much for everyone who went to see LOL. It is a film I loved making and I am proud of.... That's really all that matters to me," tweeted Miley.
