Miley Cyrus new album 2017: Singer to release first song 'Malibu' about Liam Hemsworth
Miley Cyrus is set to release her new album, the singer revealed in an interview on Wednesday. The 24-year-old is also ready to release a new single, titled “Malibu,” on May 11.
According to the interview published on Billboard, the new Cyrus song is about her boyfriend, Australian actor Liam Hemsworth. The lyrics refer to their on-and-off relationship. “I never would’ve believed you if three years ago you told me I’d be here writing this song,” echo the lyrics of “Malibu.”
The “Wrecking Ball” songstress wrote the song on the way to “The Voice,” where she was a coach for season 12. “I was trying not to sing out loud because someone else was in the car,” she said, adding that the song “Malibu” is indeed about her love life. She wanted to tell her fans how she actually felt about Hemsworth without hiding anything. The singer added that she missed him in her life so much, the two had to “re-fall” for each other after breaking up their engagement.
Cyrus penned down the lyrics and composed the music of most of the ten songs on her new album. It will have one song about Hillary Clinton and another about working women. However, the star clarified that the album is not politically oriented. “This record is a reflection of the fact that yes, I don’t give a f---, but right now is not a time to not give a f--- about people,” Cyrus said. “I’m giving the world a hug and saying, ‘Hey, look. We’re good -- I love you.’ And I hope you can say you love me back.”
She also said that she does not like hip-hop music anymore; instead, she wants to write in a more natural, “compassionate, understanding way,” which singers are not doing these days. Cyrus revealed that she is now a changed person and has quit smoking weed. According to her, she is now living a healthy life. “I’m not doing drugs, I’m not drinking, I’m completely clean right now!” she said, adding it was something she has always wanted to do.
Cyrus' last album was “Bangerz," which was an instant hit in 2013. It was followed by her SoundCloud experiment “Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz.”
