Minecraft PS3 Review, Nasty Bug Fix on the Way; Minecraft 1.8 Coming in January; More Details on Minecraft Realms
"Minecraft" PS3 version has been out for a while, and there have been a lot of good talk about the new edition for "Minecraft." Besides the obvious that it follows the success of the original PC version, as well as the beginning of the fandom like the "Minecraft: Xbox 360" edition, PS3 is basically what gamers expect of "Minecraft" as a port.
Players still have the two modes, Survival and Creative, where the former has beasts and creatures that players will encounter and have to survive from that encounter, while the latter is the free pass to let players' creative juices flow.
Perhaps the biggest advantage of "Minecraft: PS3 Edition" over the "Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition," according to Metro UK is that players get all the features from the latter from the get-go. This means they can go straight to the fun without the long and gradual updates that "Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition" players had to deal with.
In addition, the "Minecraft: PS3 Edition" has a four-player split-screen mode as well as an online mode that holds up to eight players where players can also visit a host world. This is basically the start of having a "Minecraft" community that may even be more accessible than the PC version.
Of course, just like the "Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition," the "Minecraft: PS3 Edition" still has a long way to go to catch up to the PC in terms of features and customisation options. But it's getting there, especially now that 4J Studios has just announced its intent on pushing forward with "Minecraft: Xbox 360" TU14.
"We're now back at work - looks like we have some nasty PS3 issues to fix, then on to TU14 and other platforms," said 4J Studios in its Twitter account.

'Minecraft' 1.8 Snapshot Coming Out
Even with all the work that's being put into the upcoming "Minecraft" projects---the PS3 Edition, the continuing Xbox 360 Edition and the "Minecraft Realms"---Mojang isn't slowing down the pace of updates or the original "Minecraft."
In fact, January may welcome in an onslaught of "Minecraft" 1.8 snapshots, as "Minecraft" developer Jens "Jeb" Bergensten tweeted about the upcoming screenshots: "We'll begin snapshotting in January."
Lazy Gamer notes down the different changes that will be going into "Minecraft" 1.8, which include rebalanced anvils that complement the changes in the enchantment system.

The official Minecraft Gamepedia states that enchanting has a separate XP level requirement, XP level cost and resource cost. There will also be only one enchantment shown in the tooltip, and it will be randomly chosen, so players just need to be aware of what other enchantments are available.
New blocks are also coming in, starting with smooth and raw granite, the Slime Block, stone variants, doors that are stackable up to 64 and a pink-brown stone.
Compared to "Minecraft" 1.7, which was the biome update, this update is more devoted to ironing out the kinks. The release date of "Minecraft" 1.8 is yet to be announced.

Currently running in beta form in Sweden, ZDNet reports that AWS will use EC2, Elastic Block Store, Elastic Load Balancing, Relational Database Service and S3 to host "Minecraft Realms."
"Minecraft Realms" will be running in single and multiplayer modes, where players can easily host and run their own server as they play with friends or for commercial purposes. According to Amazon Web Services, players are responsible for maintaining and securing their own host as well as avoiding issues by having a multiplayer hosting service.
"The [Mojang] team was impressed by the ease with which they were able to get started on AWS," said the official statement of AWS.
Players can have up to as many as 20 friends, 10 of which can be in the game at the same time. As far as release dates go, expansion and a more global rollout of the service is scheduled for 2014.
