'Modern Family' Season 6 Episode 20 Recap: Knock 'Em Down
This week on the hit ABC comedy series “Modern Family,” Jay is forced to pretend to be gay while on Cam’s bowling team. Meanwhile, Claire and Phil form an unlikely bond with their annoying neighbours while fighting for a common cause. Here’s what took place on episode 20 entitled “Knock ‘Em Down”:
Cam invites Jay to join his bowling team to replace an injured player. Their star bowler Maurice is out of commission and Cam knows that Jay has some skills on the lanes. He invites Jay but fails to let him know that it’s an all-gay bowling league. Cam makes Jay pretend to be gay and tells him that it’s realy important for him to win against his archrival Martin.
Cam’s rival suspects Jay isn’t gay so Cam resorts to desperate measures. He tells Martin that Jay is into him and that’s why he’s been acting weird. Martin buys Cam’s story and starts hitting on Jay. Instead of getting annoyed, Jay admires Cam’s determination and makes an extra effort to act gay. As the night goes on, both teams advance and Martin keeps making his advances on Jay. Eventually, Martin takes the leap and invites Jay out to dinner. When Jay turns him down, his game is thrown off and Cam’s team wins the championship. Unfortunately for Cam, Jay eventually admits that he’s straight and Cam’s team gets disqualified.
While Cam and Jay are out bowling, Gloria and Mitch plan to go out clubbing with Haley. They are determined to show off their youthful exuberance but start to doubt themselves when Haley says that things don’t heat up in the clubs until midnight. Mitch and Gloria find it hard to keep up and become sleepy even before the club opens. Eventually, they are forced to admit that they have gotten old and can no longer keep up with Haley’s crowd.
With the bowling pins, Mitch and Gloria already knocked down; Phil and Claire are also on a mission to knock down something else. Phil has a problem with a very obscene statue that’s decorating a neighbour’s yard. He is unable to sell the house across the street due to the offensive statue and he learns that the other neighbours don’t like it either.
Unexpectedly, the Dunphys’ annoying neighbours Ronny and Amber La Fontaine also hate the statue. They invite Phil and Claire to dinner where they unexpectedly get along. Things start getting strained when Ronny suggests that they should illegally destroy the statue. Phil and Claire refuse and the difference in opinion causes tension between the couples. On the awkward drive home, Claire decides to go through with destroying the statue. Phil tries to stop them but eventually does the deed himself when he runs over the statue accidentally. A cop comes over to investigate and it turns out that Phil knows him. He manages to talk the guy out of checking out Ronny’s truck and they all avoid getting arrested.
More hilarious misadventures await in the rest of the season of “Modern Family.” The Emmy Award Winning series airs new episodes every Wednesday at 9 pm on ABC.
