Apparently, 720,000+ Android Wear based smart devices have been shipped in 2014. However, the overall shipment of the smart wearable gadgets stands at a whopping 4.6 million. And out of the impressive gadgets released in 2014, the Motorola Moto 360 smartwatch apparently had problems with respect to limited supply, during the fourth quarter. Despite this, the Moto 360 is reportedly the clear winner among other Android Wear counterparts in 2014, says the research firm Canalys.

It is worth noting that, Android Wear made its debut in 2014. Nonetheless, there are a total of six different smartwatches based on Android Wear in the market. Therefore, the said 720,000+ shipped units is not an impressive number, notes Phone Arena. Based on the report from Canalys, the Moto 360 trumped other devices, when it comes to sales. Apart from the widely-popular Moto 360, Android Wear powered LG G Watch R has also made progress. Apparently, this smartwatch is significantly better than the predecessor LG G Watch with respect to the device performance, says the same site.

As far as the Samsung gadgets are concerned, Canalys says the company maintains the lead in the smart wearable market. But then, Samsung’s Gear Live is reportedly the only gadget running on Android Wear and the rest of smart wearable devices are based on Samsung’s own Tizen OS, notes Phone Arena. Other impressive smartwatches like the Sony SmartWatch 3 and the Asus ZenWatch did not get a mention in the Canalys report.

Meanwhile, the spectacular total of 4.6 million smart wearable devices shipped in 2014 consists of Pebble smartwatches and Xiaomi Mi band, among others. Notably, Pepple has reportedly sold 1 million smart gadget units since 2013. Plus, the affordable band from Xiaomi apparently sold over 1 million units as well. Interestingly, this substantial total also includes the one-day flash sales of over 103,000 Mi band units.

Speaking of Apple gadgets, Canalys predicts that, the Apple Watch will significantly help in growing the smart wearable devices market. And the Apple Watch release date is reportedly pegged for April. Canalys’ Analyst Daniel Matte says, “Apple made the right decisions with its WatchKit software development kit to maximize battery life for the platform, and the Apple Watch will offer leading energy efficiency.” “Android Wear will need to improve significantly in the future, and we believe it will do so,” he adds further.
