The new Moto X is among the notable handsets of 2014. However, there has also been a huge demand for smartphones from Chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi, OnePlus and Oppo.

The unlocked edition of 16 GB Moto X 2014 can be purchased for $499. People with .edu mail account can avail a $50 discount. The 32 GB variant can be purchased by paying $50 extra.

The Xiaomi Mi4 is the successor model of Xiaomi Mi3. The 16 GB version of the handset can be purchased for $439. The 64 GB version of the handset is priced at $499.

Design And Display

The Moto X 2014 has an uncanny resemblance to the Moto X of 2013. Thanks to the metal frame around the edges of the Moto X, it looks sleeker than its predecessor. The cool thing about the Xiaomi Mi4, meanwhile, is that it sports a wonderful stainless steel frame on its sides.

Both handsets are available in colours black and white. Motorola's exclusive Moto Maker allows the user to customise the the Moto X by replacing the original back cover with vibrant colored panels.

The Moto X measures 140.8 x 72.4 mm with a thickness of 10 mm and weighs 144 g. On the other hand, the Xiaomi Mi4 is smaller, measuring 139.2 x 68.5 mm with a thickness of only 8.9 mm. It weighs 149 g.

The Moto X features a 5.2-inch AMOLED screen that supports full HD resolution with 424 ppi, whereas the Mi4 has a 5-inch IPS LCD display that features a full HD resolution and 441 ppi.

Processor, RAM And Storage

Both handsets house the same Snadragon 801 chipset with Krait 400 processor, producing a speed of 2.5 GHz and Adreno 330 graphics. The Moto X has a 2 GB RAM, whereas the Mi4 has a larger 3 GB RAM.

The Moto X is available in 16 GB and 32 GB, while the Xiaomi Mi4 does not feature a 32 GB variant. However, Xiami Mi4 offers two storage options: 16 GB and 64 GB. There is no support for external storage expansion on both smartphones.

Camera and Software

Both Moto X and Xiaomi Mi4 feature a 13 MP shooter with dual LED flash. Both can also record videos of up to 2160 pixels at 30fps.

The front camera of the Moto X is 2 MP, and the one that is sitting above the display of Xiaomi Mi4 is 8 MP. Both the front-facing cameras are capable of recording 1080 pixels.

When it comes to software, the Moto X is running on Android v4.4.4 KitKat, and it can be upgraded to Android L when it arrives. The Moto X also comes with interesting software features such as Moto Display and Moto Voice. Meanwhile, the Xiaomi Mi4 features the older Android v4.4.3 KitKat which is overlaid with MIUI 5.

Connectivity and Battery

Both handsets come with a host of connectivity features like 4G LTE, 3G, v4.0 Bluetooth, microUSB v2.0, GPS and GLONASS. The Mi4 has support for USB OTG. This feature is not available on Moto X. In the same way, the Moto X comes with NFC, which is not available on Mi4.

Both Moto X and Xiaomi Mi4 feature non-removable batteries. The Moto X's battery is of 2300 mAh capacity while the battery capacity of Moto X is 3080 mAh.
