Motorola is expected to release the Moto X's successor Moto X+1 (aka Moto X2) shortly. Also, reports say that the much-awaited Moto 360 smartwatch will also be released alongside. However, there is a new Motorola device in the horizon with a code-name "Moto Maxx."

Apparently, Motorola trademarked the name Moto Maxx recently. If the reports are true, the upcoming Moto Maxx will likely house a much better battery unit than that of the Moto X. Notably, the Moto X comes with a non-removable Li-Ion 2200 mAh battery.

Moreover, the moniker "Maxx" is not new to Motorola. Devices like the Razr Maxx, the DROID Razr Maxx and the DROID Maxx have been around for some time now. However, this name is exclusive to Verizon (the U.S.) based devices, according to Droid-Life via Phone Arena.

Equating the two, the new trademark could indicate that Motorola Mobility may be working to make the moniker Maxx for devices exclusive to Motorola instead of Verizon. Owing to the fact that, the name Moto is widely recognised as Motorola's brand name.

With no information available on the actual specifications, it is only safe to assume that the Moto Maxx could come equipped with a bigger battery unit. The obvious reason is that the name Maxx has always been associated with longer battery life (or bigger battery unit) in the history of Motorola.

Unfortunately, with the limited available information there is no way to ascertain if the new device will come with only an improved battery unit or will it be a brand new device from Motorola. Therefore here is a refresher of the Moto X specifications, just in case the Moto Maxx turns out to be Moto X's replica with improved battery life.

The 2013 Motorola Moto X features a 4.7-inch full HD AMOLED display with 720 x 1,280 pixels screen resolution. The device is powered by a dual-core (Qualcomm MSM8960Pro Snapdragon) Krait processor clocked at 1.7 GHz, with a solid 2 GB of RAM. The Moto X runs on Android OS v4.2.2 (Jelly Bean), which is upgradable to Android v4.4.4 (KitKat).

When it comes to memory, the phone comes equipped with 16 GB or 32 GB of internal storage. However, there is no microSD card support for further expansion and it is one of the constant complaints from Moto X users across the globe. Furthermore, the handset houses a good 10 MP rear-facing camera unit and a 2 MP front-facing shooter. As mentioned earlier, the Moto X comes with 2,200 mAh battery unit.
