Motorola released a firmware update for the X phone and owners of the smartphone can expect major changes to the camera application, touchless control, calling and more. Moto X can be updated with the new firmware via FOTA or manual installation.

Moto X New Firmware

A special Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean firmware was released by Motorola which features several improvements in the camera application, Motorola services and system stability for owners of the Moto X. Moto X 10-MP rear shooting benefits greatly to the following improvements:

- Improved capture in natural light with the Automatic White Balance.

- More colour accuracy for precise exposure in backlit and outdoor scenes.

- Faster touch focus time.

- Reduced unnecessary refocus in low-light conditions and in scenes under continuous motion.

- Faster switching between the rear and front cameras

- Faster switching between the viewfinder and gallery app.

How to Download the Update

Normally, your Moto X will get an update notifications once connected to the Internet. Moto X subscribers to AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular and Verizon are all eligible for the special firmware release.

FOTA Update

If you want to use the Firmware Over-the-Air procedure or FOTA, simply go to "Settings > About phone > Software updates > Check for updates." A prompt should appear on your device describing the new firmware. Choose either "Download Later" or "Download Now".

Be reminded that the firmware update may remove contents on your smartphone so it is recommended for you to create a backup of all personal settings, information and data files. Moreover, make sure that the handset is connected to a stable Wi-Fi connection and its AC charger is plugged to avoid power interruption.

Motorola Device Manager

In case, you are not notified with the update, use the Motorola Device Manager or MDM on your computer to get the latest firmware.

1. Connect your Moto X phone to your computer using a USB cable.

2. Launch the MDM program on your computer. If it is not installed, download it from Motorola's Web site.

3. The application will detect the update using an Internet connection. If ever no updates are detected, go to your phone and select "Settings > Developer Options > Turn off USB debugging mode." Disconnect and reconnect the Moto X then select MTP or Media Transfer Protocol as its connection.

4. Follow the instructions provided for you by the Motorola Device Manager and do not interrupt the update during installation.
