Motorola Droid Turbo and Moto X Android 5.1, Android 5.0.2 Update Guide
Motorola continues to roll out a series of Android updates to its devices including the Moto X and the Motorola Droid Turbo. The Moto X second generation Android 5.0.2 Lollipop software's OTA is now available while the Motorola Droid Turbo will be skipping the Android 5.0 Lollipop and go straight to Android 5.1.
According to Motorola's support page for Moto X: "We are excited to announce a new software update for Moto X (2nd Generation) by Motorola. This update brings Android™ 5.0.2 Lollipop to your phone along with other improvements." Likewise, the company also notes that the Android 5.0.2 is one of the most important Android updates to date because it offers visual style improvements and how user-device interaction. Before downloading the update, Motorola advises people to charge the device at least 50% then connect it to a Wi-Fi Network. The instructions are as follows:
1. Once the notification message appars, tap "Yes, I'm in."
2. Following download, click on "Install Now."
3. Wait for the installation to be completed and for the phone to restart automatically.
4. The handset should be running now with 22.21.33.
For those who have not received the notification message, they can check for the update manually:
1. Go to Settings.
2. Tap on About Phone.
3. Choose System Updates.
4. Tap on "Yes, I'm in." Wait for the software to download and check "Install Now."
6. The phone should be running now with 22.21.33
Likewise, Android Central reports that the Motorola Droid Turbo should be skipping the Android 5.0 Lollipop update heading straight to Android 5.1. According to the report, Luciano Carvalho, a software engineer at Motorola, hinted in his Google+ account that the skip is necessary becuse Verizon requires VoLTE support. The Android 5.1 offers that automatically unlike in the original Lollipop. Android Central quotes him: "Verizon demands VoLTE support and 5.1 brings it to the platform. Basically it. Porting all the VoLTE changes to 5.0 and then switch to the AOSP solution on 5.1 would be a huge waste of resources." The Google+ post appears to have been taken down at present time.
