Motorola might replace its Moto X lineup with Moto Z
If recent reports are to be believed, there won’t be any Moto X-branded smartphones in the future. Motorola released flagship handsets under the brand name of Moto X since 2013. The journey started with the launch of the first generation of Moto X featuring a 4.7-inch display, Snapdragon S4 Pro with 2GB of RAM.
According to Evan Blass (via Venture Beat), Motorola is planning to replace its Moto X line-up with a new ‘Moto Z’ series. The promotional materials of the the Lenovo-owned company hint at revamped brand name for the Moto 2016 smartphone models.
The report claims that the Moto Z series will introduce two smartphones codenamed Vector Thin and Vertex. The premium model will be named as Moto Z Style (Vector Thin ) and the other variant will be known as Moto Z Play (Vertex).
He added that the new series will come with modular backplates. The accessories for the new line-up will be sold under the name of MotoMods instead of Amps as rumoured earlier. Both the handsets would reportedly be differentiated by camera capabilities.
Blass also predicted that the Verizon-branded Droid Turbo and Droid Maxx will be renamed to Moto Z Play Droid Edition.
The new series of Moto Z smartphone along with its modular accessories are expected to be launched at the Lenovo Tech World show starting on June 9 in San Francisco.
