The next-generation version of the hot-favourite Motorola Moto X is official now. The Moto X 2014 guarantees improved performance with a quad-core processor and other killer features. AT&T is one of the carriers offering the latest Moto X. Potential buyers can pre-order the handset starting Sept. 16 for $99.99 under contract. Moreover, AT&T has released a promotional video of the upcoming Moto X device. [Scroll down to watch the video.]

In addition, interested buyers can purchase the device without any contract for US$500 from Motorola's official website soon. As far as the specification goes, the new 2014 Moto X features 5.2-inch AMOLED display packed with a screen resolution of 1,080 x 1,920 pixels and 424 ppi pixel density. The build quality of the latest device stands out when compared to the plastic-laden look of the 2013 Moto X. The device comes with curved corners and there are no buttons in the front. The handset has a premium-looking aluminium frame covering the sides, making the device feel solid and brings HTC One (M8) to mind, reports Gizmodo.

Moreover, the phone is powered by a quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 801) Krait 400 processor, clocked at 2.5 GHz and backed by 2 GB of RAM. This is a great improvement from the 2013 Moto X model that comes with a dual-core (Snapdragon Pro) Krait processor, clocked at 1.7 GHz. Speaking of OS, the handset runs on Android OS v4.4.4 KitKat (upgradable to Android L).

When it comes to the camera, the latest device sports an impressive 13 MP rear-facing camera unit with dual-LED flash and a 2 MP front-facing shooter. Whereas the 2013 Moto X comes with a 10 MP primary camera with LED flash. Apart from the standard connectivity options like Bluetooth v4.0, Wi-Fi and microUSB, the Moto X also supports NFC like its predecessor.

There is a slight improvement in the battery unit as well. The 2014 Moto X comes equipped with Li-Ion 2300 mAh battery, while the 2013 Moto X houses a Li-Ion 2200 mAh battery unit. Furthermore, the handset comes in 16 GB and 32 GB of internal storage choice with no microSD card support. However, there is no word on the 64 GB variant thus far.

Notably, the Moto X 2014's rear shell can be customised with umpteen choices via Motorola Moto Maker. Additionally, Verizon and US Cellular have also announced that the Moto X will be offered towards the end of September. Meanwhile, Moto X Pure Edition can be availed from Motorola very soon.
