Motorola recently launched Moto x to take on the Apple's Iphones, which have dominated the smartphone market. This is the first launch by the beleaguered company since its takeover by Google. The following is a comparison of the hard hitting differences that matter.

Size does matter in the smartphone market and recently there was a big debate within Apple to increase the size of IPhones to take on the better selling bigger sized Samsung smartphones.

The debate was ended with Apple retaining the IPhones' original size. Motorola is taking a different route; it's a tad bit bigger than the regular iPhones with a screen size of 4.7 inches which is slightly bigger than the 4 inch apple iPhones but smaller than the 5 plus inch sized smartphones offered by Samsung. With the increased size comes an increased weight, moto X is about 18 grams heavier than Iphone 5 at 130 grams.

The smartphone market was going for the sleek metallic look with many of the manufacturers choosing aluminum as the preferred material to be used because of its light weight. Motorola seems to have sacrificed stunning looks for customization as Moto X comes with a plastic body. The plastic body allows for greater customization specially allowing the customers to choose the color they like.

In terms of storage Moto X comes in the standard 16 and 32GB memory options whereas Iphone 5 comes with 16, 32 or 64GB options. On the plus side for Moto X, it comes at double the RAM speed at 2GB compared to the 1GB RAM of Iphone 5.

In terms of battery Moto X comes with a 2200 mAh battery which will give substantially more talking time compared to the 1400 mAh battery offered by iphone 5

In terms of purely a megapixel comparison Moto x offers a 10 MP rear camera and a 2 MP front camera, compared to the 8 MP back and a 1.2 MP front camera offered by Iphone 5. Will this additional megapixel offered by Moto x result in better performance is yet to be seen.

Finally the most compelling feature of Moto X is that it can supposedly recognize the owner's voice and receive commands without the user having to touch the phone.

So with the clear advantage of Moto X over iphone 5 and both being in the same price range, it seems like Moto X is the better option for now, until the new Iphone is released.
