Motorola Shamu Confirmed as Nexus 6 on Release Date with Redesigned UI & Enhanced Screen Animation
Google and Motorola are not working on a device called Nexus X but there is indeed a Nexus 6 that practically is the repurposed 2014 Moto X and release date of this handset is approaching real soon, new reports said.
Android Police is claiming in a new story that the next Nexus smartphone is taking the name Nexus 6 and not Nexus X as alleged in earlier reports. To support what it stressed as confirmed Nexus 6 details, the tech blog site posted a concept picture of the device (viewable here).
Power specs
In essence, the publication has affirmed the recent information that paints a picture of what the Nexus 5 sequel would be.
The mobile phone is a gigantic phablet indeed, its 5.9-inch screen profile easily dwarfs over that of the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus. The front panel is laced with a pixel density of 496ppi, thanks to the Quad HD screen technology that Google will deploy with the device, allowing for display resolution of 2560 x 1440.
The Android Police report appears in line with the 9to5Google exclusive that revealed a combo of 13MP main cam and 2MP front cam for the upcoming Nexus with the rear shooter also featuring optical image stabilisation.
The energy juicer is a 3200mAh battery kit and to ensure that the Nexus 6 will be operational much longer than its immediate predecessor and rivals, Motorola is packing the device with fast-charging capability similar to that introduced by Samsung via the Galaxy Note 4.
Hinted too is the possibility of the 4.9-inch Nexus 5 staying on for another year, likely repackaged and to sell side by side with the Nexus 6. This would be the case as Android Police suggested that a smaller 5.2-inch Nexus 6 could be shelved by Google.
Fresh user interface
In was mentioned in the same report that the Nexus 6 user interface will be significantly tweaked as the device will run on Android L coming out of the box. Somehow this was confirmed by a Myce article that pointed to an alleged Android L-powered Nexus 5.
The next Android with build number LRW87D was detected through a Chromium issue tracker, Myce said, adding that Lemon Meringue Pie (LMP), another name given to Android L, will boast of redesigned application icons, trimmed navigation buttons and well-defined system fonts.
Awesome screen animation
In a separate report, BGR highlighted what it termed as the awesome Android L animation effects that Nexus and Android fans can expect and the improvement, of course, is courtesy of the Material Design language that Google is using with its new mobile operating system.
Animation on Android L-powered devices is inspired by the laws of physics that in rendition factor in the real elements of weight and mass. The result is - objects or shapes appearing on screen will gradually materialise and assume full form instead of simply popping out, BGR said on its report.
GIF samples of such reality-inspired animation effects are provided by the same report here.
All reports cited above are in agreement that Android is slated for introduction on October 16, which will be followed by the Nexus 6 release date that likely will happen on November that also would serve as Google's Halloween 2014 treat.
