Motorola upgrades Droid X with Gingerbread
Droid X users rejoice! Starting Friday, May 27 Droid X will be getting upgraded to Android 2.3, the Gingerbread.
According to a report from the Examiner, Verizon has confirmed that the update will come with a new user interface with new colors, a download manager to better arrange your apps and attachments, better access to the numeric keyboard board and an autosuggestions feature to make you group your contacts in a more user-friendly manner.
The Verizon e-mail informed users that the Android 2.3 will be available over the air starting Friday, May 27 or they can it download it manually. The update comes just as Droid X2 is due to be released. Droid X2 will run on a dual core CPU.
The Android 2.3 OS build, commonly called Gingerbread was first released in December on the Nexus S smartphones by Samsung. Motorola users have long waited for their chance to use the new operating system. Motorola phones have been operating on the Froyo OS. Gingerbread gives the user more control over managing apps that consume too much CPU. The application settings in Gingerbread provide users an overview of how much battery life is being consumed by various apps.
Other features of the Android 2.3 OS build is a redesigned soft keyboard for faster texting and editing. The keyboard has the added ability of entering suggested words from the dictionary. Paste and hold can be quickly done by selecting a word then pressing which would enter a free selection mode. Users can also make voice calls over the internet to other users who also have SIP accounts. Gingerbread also offers a more streamlined user interface making it easier to learn and more power efficient. The changes in menu and settings make the OS easier to navigate and control.
