Motorola X Phone, which is expected to herald the launch of Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, is set to be Google's first purebred device. Now rumours are saying that the Nexus 5 (as tech sleuths called it), is not actually going to be a Nexus 4 successor. The Google X Phone, as the upcoming Motorola phone is now called, belongs to a line of its own. So it goes with a non-Nexus name, although it actually builds up from Nexus 4 specs. At least these are what the rumours are saying.

Phonesreview.co.uk recently published this designer's X Phone concept. The site reported Jason Chen's best guess as to what the next Google flagship phone will look like.

Since Google took over Motorola in 2011, this is the first time the tech giant is leveraging the acquisition for the purpose of building a flagship smartphone (and a tablet, says the rumours). This alone brings heightened anticipation for the so-called Motorola X Phone. All the other Nexus phones were built with other companies - from HTC (Nexus One) to Samsung (Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus) to LG (Nexus 4). With Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie in the picture, the anticipation reaches new heights for Google phone users.

Tech site Eaglesrant.com guessed the "Motorola X Phone may not carry Motorola's branding after all." It "might just be the next 'pure' Google phone, contrary to initial reports that it wouldn't be a true Nexus device."

Smarthouse further fueled the Motorola X Phone rumours when it reported Telstra's chief technology officer's alleged remarks to staff in a briefing. A new Google device is coming to Telstra and it "is a real breakthrough, a game changer that will put pressure on Samsung and Apple," Telstra chief technology officer Hugh Bradlow reportedly told the carrier's staff.

There have been persistent rumours that Google might introduce a Nexus 5 (along with Nexus 7.7) at its Google I/O event in May. But many say Google will not upset its Nexus 4 buyers that way, considering the current flagship smartphone was released only late last year, with supply chain stabilizing only in February. Having a new Motorola phone solves this issue. So there will be no Nexus 5 (at least not in May), but there will be a new Google phone, anyway.

Phonesreview.co.uk recently published a designer's X Phone concept. The site reported Jason Chen's best guess as to what the next Google flagship phone will look like. Chen believes the upcoming phone will have the following specs: 1.5GHz quad-core Krait processor, 4.5-inch Super AMOLED display (1280 x 720 p) and 13 MP camera which takes 1080p video. Chen's X phone measures 128mm x 62mm x 7.6mm and weighs only 125g. The site says this phone could come with Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie or a new OS "exclusive to this phone."
