Motorola's Upcoming Moto G2 Rumored to Have Bigger Display, Better Camera

Moto G's successor is gearing up to be a more powerful version of the original. Rumors and leaked specs reveal that the G2 may be sporting a bigger HD display and a camera with higher resolution than its predecessor.

A leak from Brazilian retailer Livraria Logos suggests that the G2 will come with a 5.0-inch, 720p HD display, half an inch bigger than its predecessors' 4.5-inch, 720p display. It also says the G2 will have a better camera than its predecessor - while the original Moto G only came with a 5 MP primary camera and a 1.3 MP front-facing camera, the G2 is said to have an 8 MP primary camera with a 2 MP secondary camera. These added features are said to be the reason behind the rumored price increase: the current Moto G model first came out at $229, while the upcoming Moto G2 is rumored to be priced at around $249.

Other Rumored Features

The leak from Livraria Logos revealed other rumored features to be perfect for a bargain phone. These include a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box, and expandable memory up to 16 GB through a microSD slot. Units outside the US are reported to have a dual-sim version too. Another supposed leak from GSMArena reports 8 GB internal storage with 1 GB RAM.

Expected Announcement at the IFA 2014

Many tech news outlets expect Motorola to announce the Moto G2 officially along with other anticipated Motorola devices in their press event at the IFA 2014 this coming September 4. Motorola has not made any announcements on what products they will be officially announcing in the event. If the announcement does happen, however, many predict that the G2 may be made available in mid-September, shortly after Motorola's press event. GSMArena has quoted an "official source," saying the G2 may be released for shipping as early as September 10, just six days after the scheduled press event.
