Mozilla Unleashes Firefox OS Smartphones Keon and Peak in February
Mozilla will debut two Firefox OS smart phones, dubbed Keon and Peak, which will be available in the market on February.
But before the phones become available to the market, Mozilla has already announced its developer preview phones, enticing developers to start creating apps and other products with the OS, reports V3.
"Developer preview phones will help make the mobile Web more accessible to more people," said Mozilla to PC Mag.
Keon is a more basic smart phone, with a 3.5 inch HGVA touch screen, 3-megapixel camera, and a 1GHz processo by Qualcomm Snapdragon, according to T3 magazine. The orange wrap around the back of the phones gives it an appeal to the younger market.
Peak, on the other hand, is targeted for the midrange ones who are looking for a more serious smart phone, with its 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, 4.3 inch qHD touch screen, an 8-megapixel back camera with flash-feature, and a 2-megapixel front camera.
The Firefox OS smart phones are a collaboration of Mozilla and Spanish phone creator Geeksphone, reports MacLife. But Telefonica, a Spanish telecommunication provider is also the third pillar in the partnership.
"To make Firefox OS a success, we need to assure a rich ecosystem and compelling user experience since day one. And that will only be possible if we provide developers the appropriate tools to make it happen," Carlos Domingo, Telefonica Digital product development head said to Giga OM in a statement.
While there is no release of the actual price, Forbes hints that the Mozilla phones are likely to be on the cheap side, considering how it is backed on the HTML5 similar to websites on browsers. Hopefully before its release next month, developers may have made apps tailored for the Firefox OS phones.
