MTV 2011 VMA Winners: Who Deserved the 'Moon Man' and Who Did Not [PHOTOS and VIDEOS]
For this year's MTV Video Music Awards, the winners seemed quite obvious, but according to critics, not all winners deserved the coveted "moon man" on their hands.
Each year, music fans from all over the globe tune in to the MTV Video music awards, the most glitzy and awards ceremony featuring the biggest hit-makers of today. The coveted Video of the Year award went to Katy Perry's "Firework," whose relatable theme of boosting one's self-esteem went well with the voters. Perry surely deserved winning that award for helping a lot of young fans be more confident, as well as the "Best Collaboration" win she and rapper Kanye West nabbed for their song "E.T."
British singer Adele was expected to win "Best Female Video" for her massive hit "Rolling in the Deep," but shock-effect artiste Lady Gaga took the award, who ironically, was dressed like a man when she accepted the award. Instead, Adele nabbed miscellaneous awards such as "Best Cinematography" and "Best Art Direction," a little confusing since her music is undeniably the best among all of the nominated songs, videos, or even albums.
Rock legends the Foo Fighters won the Best Rock Video for their creatively-crafted "Walk" video, a truly well-deserved win since the band has set the standard for quality rock and roll since the band formed in 1994. After winning the award, the band posted "Holy Guacamole, we just won an mtv award, turns out rock and roll is still alive. thx everybody." in their Facebook page. The band also just announced a bunch of show dates all over America their Twitter page.
One disappointment for true music fans is Justin Bieber's win for "Best Male Video," unbelievably beating out Kanye West, Bruno Mars, Eminem and "The Voice" panelist Cee Lo Green. This kind of win is what separates the VMA's from the Grammy's or the American Music Awards whose judging criteria focuses on the superiority of the music and not what's "popular" or in demand by "tweens".
The talented Beyonce won "Best Coreography" for her video "Run the World (Girls)," whose attendance was a surprise since this was the first time the singer came out publicly with a pregnant stomach. Everybody jeered and were excited for Beyonce's future child with rap mogul Jay-Z who was also in the event. Rap group The Beastie Boys won "Best Direction" for their recent video "Make Some Noise," which featured included today's hottest comedians, actors, and filmmakers as characters in the 10-minute long video.
