Naruto Debuts on Next-Gen Consoles With ‘Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4’
Whether you're a fan or a critic of the Naruto franchise, one can't deny that it will leave a big legacy few animes or mangas will ever match. Naruto's dream to be Hokage and his determination to win back his friend Sasuke Uchiha from the dark forces of the Akatsuki have both captivated and pissed off a lot of fans. Some say he's one of the most likeable under dogs in anime history, others say he's a whiney baby who is way too clingy; either way, someone has something to say about him.
The same can be said for the "Ultimate Ninja Storm" games based on the character. With that being said, CyberConnect 2 have announced the next game in the series "Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4" for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. This game will be the next generation debut for the titular franchise. The series is best known for it's stellar cel-shaded graphics, over the top finishers and easy to pick-up controls, though it has also been criticized for that.
As mentioned earlier, the "Ultimate Ninja Storm" series has always received mixed reviews. Kotaku, for example, enjoys the flashy and epic feeling to the fights while Gamespot isn't a fan of the lack of depth and complexity in the battle system. The most recent iteration "Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution" has an overall score of 73 in Metacritic, which pretty much sums up the general feeling of Naruto as a franchise in general.
There's a small level of irony to Naruto debuting on next-gen consoles since the manga concluded last November and it looks like the anime will follow suit, unless they decide to keep it alive with filler episodes and anime movies. Then again, the Dragon Ball Z saga technically ended years ago, but games and specials for it keep popping up, so it is entirely possible for Naruto to follow this trend. After all, storylines may end but merchandise sales will never die.
There have been no details released about about the game, though IGN did confirm a playable demo would be available during the Jump Fiesta in Tokyo, japan. Expect this game to come out in the fall of 2015, with legions of people declaring it the best or worst anime game ever made.
