Segmentation of Android 4.4 Firmware

Google may have a strong point on solving the fragmentation problem of Android OS by segmenting the upcoming software version via Play Store which will allow Android users to get files, services and apps based from 4.4 KitKat instead of waiting too long from manufacturer updates.

Some applications of Android KitKat are independent such as Gmail, Play Store, Camera, Gallery, Calendar, Contacts, Google+ and YouTube which may be distributed or free for download from Google Play Store with the latest version.

New features from camera and gallery applications having 4.4 KitKat changes are going to be freely available to most Android devices which support 512MB of RAM at least. It also interprets that aging devices are not totally obsolete but simply improved by Android 4.4; still you need to purchase a newer device.

The Nexus 5 has been reported as well and aside from Android 4.4 KitKat OS, the upcoming smartphone will support optical image stabilisation and USB on-the-go port.

According to sources, both the front-facing and rear-facing cameras have OIS feature but unclear if it is the actual optics or software app which improves photo and video captures. Another addition is the USB OTG port which will enable the Nexus 5 to detect and read USB flash disks, USB MODEMs and even external hard disk drives.

Since the Nexus 5 will not feature a microSD card slot, Google's move on adding USB OTG port can allow owners to expand storage space using portable flash disks with less risk on file corruption compared to the tiny SD cards.

Moreover, the Nexus 5 log reports seem to have confirmed the KitKat advertisement in their Web site about more accessories compatible for the next version of Android. Not only the Nexus 5 will support USB OTG, the device will also support more USB based audio accessories which currently a growing trend in the market.

Release Date

October is strongly suggested by many sources as the official release date of Android 4.4 KitKat but believes that it may be pushed by November, at least before Android's fifth birthday.

None of the log reports have been confirmed by Google which makes them less 100 per cent accurate. Fans will need to wait for all changes and new features once Google finally launch the new OS.
