Blackberry users may now have the chance to install Android apps on their devices. Blackberry 10.2.1 comes with the ability to run .APK files. These refer to the apps files used for Android. This means Z10, Q10, Q5, Z30 and other types of Blackberry users can now download Android apps. It used to be a complicated and long process. Thanks to the new update, Blackberry users will now have it easier.

1. Initially, users have to find their APK. There are several sources for this:

  • Amazon App Store
  • 1mobile Market
  • APK Train (Web site)
  • Snap APK Downloader​

2. Download the APK file on the Blackberry device. Users can download the Android APK install file by going to the source in the Blackberry browser (this is the most convenient option). Other options include copying the file directly to the device via USB connection or emailing the file and then downloading it.

3. Install the APK file. If the file was downloaded using the Blackberry browser, the Downloads window will pop up asking the user where to save the file. Just press on the file once completed. If there is no download window, getting a backup is easy. Tap on the overflow menu button. Look for three little dots in the bottom right. Choose Downloads.

4. Given the file has been transferred to the device in another way, users can find the file easily through the magnifying glass icon. The icon is at the bottom of the home screen. Tap on the icon and type ".apk." Anything that was transferred with the file extension will turn up on the Documents and Files result. Click on the file to be installed.

The Android app should begin installing following the indicator "Processing." Click on the install button on the top right, confirm Accept and wait until the installation process is complete. Some apps may require special instructions or additional files, so it is best to double check first before installation.
