New Apple MacBook 2015: Advantages And Disadvantages
Apple has introduced the new 12-inch Retina MacBook at the special Apple event in San Francisco. Apparently, this is the thinnest Mac ever built by Apple that comes with a thickness measurement of 13.1 mm. In order to achieve the said thickness metric, Apple has reportedly created a new keyboard, trackpad and in turn, got rid of every external outlet except for a single port. Speaking of the Apple MacBook price, the device will set the buyers back by a whopping $1,299. Therefore, it is time to figure out the advantages and disadvantages of the ultraportable Apple MacBook 2015, collated by Tech2.
Apple MacBook Advantages: Design And New Colour
When it comes to main advantage of the Apple MacBook 2015, one cannot ignore the killer design the tech giant has opted for. Potential buyers with keen interest in purchasing a sharp display with wafer-thin and light body should look no further; the MacBook 2015 is the device, notes Tech2.
To put it in perspective, the new 12-inch Apple MacBook reportedly weighs 2.03 pounds, whereas the 11-inch MacBook Air weighs roughly 2.38 pounds and the 13-inch version weighs 2.96 pounds. As far as the colour choices go, the MacBook 2015 comes in gold and space gray hues.
Apple MacBook Advantages: Brilliant Display
The new Apple MacBook features a killer 12-inch LED-backlit Retina display and 2,304 x 1,440 pixels screen resolution with a 16:10 aspect ratio. In comparison, the 13-inch MacBook Air carries a 1,440 x 900 pixels screen resolution. The 11-inch MacBook Air, meanwhile, comes with only a 1,366 x 768 pixels resolution. Hence, it is quite evident that, Apple has nailed the display part with the new MacBook.
Apple MacBook Advantages: More Responsive Keyboard With Separate Backlit LED For Keys
The Apple MacBook 2015’s keyboard reportedly is 34 percent thinner when compared to other Apple keyboards. Plus, the keyboard apparently uses a “new butterfly mechanism to provide the keys with four times more stability and more accuracy.” Plus, Tech2 also points out that, the stainless steel dome switches housed under each key provide a clear and responsive feel while typing. In addition, each key on the keyboard is separately backlit with individual LEDs, notes Tech2.
Apple MacBook Advantages: Customisable ForceTouch Trackpad
The MacBook 2015 features a brand new ForceTouch trackpad with in- built force sensors, which apparently lets the device owners to customise the trackpad depending on the pressure employed. Adding a cherry on top, there is a new gesture feature dubbed “Force Click.” This gesture is apparently a single click, followed by a long press and this can be employed for special tasks in the lines of checking the meaning of a word, thereby eliminating the right click feature.
Apple MacBook Disadvantages: Hardware Configuration
The Apple MacBook 2015 is powered by a (low-power) dual-core fifth-generation Intel Core M processor clocked at a choice of 1.1 GHz, 1.2 GHz or 1.3 GHz. Plus, the device comes equipped with 8 GB of RAM configuration with an in-built memory choice of 256 GB and 512 GB. However, the speed is apparently not up to the mark, notes Laptop Mag. In comparison, the 11-inch MacBook Air model has a relatively faster Intel Core i5 processor clocked at 1.6 GHz powering the device. In any case, this new device is reportedly not suitable for either gaming or video-editing, says Wired.
Apple MacBook Disadvantages: No Ports
To achieve the wafer-thin body, Apple has apparently eliminated all external ports from the MacBook. Alternatively, the new device comes with a brand new “compact USB-C port” for data transfer. Plus, the video-out and charging apparently use a single connector. It is worth noting that, the USB-C port reportedly supports “higher wattage charging”, USB 3.1 Gen 1 data transfer and lastly, DisplayPort 1.2. However, the flip side is that, in case, the MacBook 2015 owners would like to charge the device and connect to a USB drive simultaneously, an additional adapter needs to be purchased from Apple, notes Tech2.
Apple MacBook Disadvantages: Battery
Apparently, the new MacBook 2015 features a layered battery design and this unit can provide up to 9 hours of wireless web surfing time and nearly 10 hours of movie playback time. In comparison, Tech2 notes, the 13-inch MacBook Air offers up to 12 hours of surfing and movie playback time.
Apple MacBook Disadvantages: Price And No-Glow-Apple-Logo
Even with the unmissable disadvantages mentioned above, the 256 GB Apple MacBook 2015 variant is reportedly priced at a whopping $1299, while the 512 GB version can be availed for $1599. And sadly, the much-loved Apple Logo on the MacBook 2015 will reportedly not glow in this new model.
