The new remote control of the Apple TV has been revamped into a much thicker unit. Apart from sporting a thicker design, it also features a touch pad that can be used for scrolling around – having a look that is pretty similar with the one that Amazon ships for its Echo wireless speaker, as reported by The New York Times.

With the remote’s new redesigned look, its owner will no longer fret about losing it in between couch cushions. According to Engadget, this new model will be unveiled during this year’s WWDC event, along with a new Apple TV and a rumored TV subscription package that will be allegedly priced at to

This remote control update is reported to be the very first major one ever since the Apple TV was launched in 2007. The first batch of remote controls that were released with the television were relatively non-cosmetic. They were all-white, while the later ones were made of metal. The remote’s new look somehow puts it in line with the other input units that are made by the Cupertino-based company, such as the Magic Mouse.

Launching a redesigned remote control actually makes a lot of sense – considering that Apple’s intentions of releasing a revamped Apple TV with new features were no secret. With regards to the channel lineup, however, it is still open to speculation.

According to BGR, Wall Street Journal has reported that the new Apple TV’s channel selection will be pretty lightweight this time around, consisting of around 25 channels. The report also mentioned that a couple of huge channels, such as FX and ESPN are already on board. To date, however, there have been no confirmation regarding the other channels.

Newer reports have also indicated that the next generation Apple TV will also be featuring Siri integration and its own special, dedicated App Store.
