Apple plans to hold its annual fall event on Sept. 9 to announce the most-anticipated forthcoming iPhones. Along with the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus with Force Touch, the company may also unveil the new Apple TV.

According to 9To5Mac, the new Apple TV model, codenamed J34, will be the first model of a set top box to run a full iOS core. Previously, it was rumored that the Apple TV will be unveiled at the WWDC event back in June. Sources said that the company postponed its release to allow its engineers to customise and optimise the operating system for the TV screen.

New Dedicated Touch-Pad Remote Control

A brand new, bigger and improved remote control with touch-based input and gesture support is going accompany the Apple TV. The Force Touch technology will also make an appearance in the Apple TV remote. The new remote control will include both Bluetooth technology and an infrared sensor. Several files in OS X 10.11 El Capitan betas suggest that the remote will have an integrated audio technology, which could be vital for gaming, reports NDTV Gadgets .

New Device Hardware Design

Apple has been sporting the same external design for the last five years. It is believed that the new model will be slimmer and a little wider. Most probably, it will feature a plastic body in order to be best compatible with routers and Bluetooth remotes.

Proactive-Based Search and Siri Support

Proactive search is a powerful and accurate system-wide search support. In iOS 9, Proactive search will allow users to search both across the OS itself and inside third-party apps. A new voice-based Siri system will be a major attraction for the new device. Now, the Apple TV can search for content or begin playback with the help of Siri.

App Store

This time, Apple’s focus on App Store apps will be video-centric applications. This means, media companies will be able to release new channels on the Apple TV on their own schedule. The new device will bring along the full Software Development Kit. Now developers will be able to build apps for the Apple TV, just like with the iPhone and iPad.

Faster Processor and More Storage

The new generation of Apple TV is expected to house a new processor. Unlike the current model, which runs on a single-core A5 chip, the latest model will be powered by a dual-core variant of A8 chip. To substantially improve the performance and user experience, Apple is expected to double the RAM size from 512MB to 1GB in the latest version. The current Apple TV sports an 8GB of flash storage, which is believed to be increased up to 32GB.
