New exclusive HP Spectre 13 to take on Apple MacBook and Dell XPS 13
HP has teamed up with renowned luxury and jewellery designers, Tord Boontje and Jess Hannah, to unveil its new Spectre 13 laptop range. Instead of launching the new devices at a tech show, HP has chosen to do things differently and release its latest Windows 10 powered laptops at the New York Times International Luxury Conference at Versailles, France.
The HP Spectre 13 line-up includes two limited edition ultra-thin luxury laptops measuring just 10.4mm in thickness -- thinner than the Apple MacBook which is 13.2mm thick, and Dell's XPS 13 which is 15.2mm thick.
One of the two HP spectre models is crafted with 18-karat gold and made by Dutch designer Tord Boontje. The other limited edition gold-plated diamond studded model was designed by jewelry designer Jess Hannah.
“A limited number of devices from each designer will be auctioned at the Cannes Film Festival in May with the proceeds going to the Nelson Mandela Foundation,” HP confirmed.
The lavish, ultra-portable laptop doesn't just look good. It also offers top-of-the-line features and specifications.
The HP Spectre sports a 13.3-inch (diagonal) edge-to-edge Corning Gorilla Glass with Full HD display, while touting a black aluminium and carbon fibre design.
Powered by Intel Core i5 or i7 processor coupled with a ground-breaking hyperbaric cooling technology, the gadgets' new technology helps draw cool air to the processor, keeping it cool during peak performance.
The HP Spectre offers 8GB of RAM and comes with up to 512GB of internal storage. Weighing 2.45 pounds, the laptop comes with a backlit keyboard and glass trackpad. HP also claims the new laptop will last up to nine hours on a single charge.
The HP Spectre 13 price starts at US $1,169 (AU$1547). The laptop will be up for pre-order in select regions from April 25.
HP is also set to introduce the 2016 models of its Envy and Envy x360 laptop lineups at the New York Times International Luxury Conference. These new models feature USB Type-C ports and are thinner than their predecessors.
