On the basis of the feedback that it received by launching the Graph Search feature in 2013, Facebook has upgraded its search feature. The new Facebook Search feature allows users to look for posts added by their friends or people they follow. The results can be customized for accuracy.

As of this writing, the new Facebook Search is available on the desktop and iPhone app editions. According to Search Engine Land, by using specific hashtags on Facebook Search, users can view search results outside their networks. The Age claims that the new Facebook Search works like the way Google Search functions. For instance, if a user searches for a particular word, the search result would show up all the posts by your friends that contains that word.

ABC News says that even though the new search update sounds exciting, it has the potential to unearth the entire history, which also includes embarrassing posts. However, this is only possible if you have set your privacy settings like 'who can see my stuff' and 'who can look me up as public' or everyone. Also, by setting "limit old posts", users can limit others from exploring their timeline. However, one should be aware of the fact that if someone has been tagged in a posts, even their friends will be view it too.

A spokeswoman from Facebook claims that the new search functionality will be first made available to only for users using Facebook English (US) and it would take a week to implement it. Facebook users in Australia can make use of the new Facebook Search feature by switching the language from UK English to US English on the sign-in page.

Forbes highlights that the updated search function still has room for improvement. For instance, "Sydney restaurant" will only show up posts that contain those exact words. It will not show posts that contain related words like "café" or "bar." The updated Facebook Search is unable to search through comments. So, if the search term is present in the comments posted by friends, it will not display it.
