New and Improved Asus FonePad 7 Arrives: Three Reasons Why It Might be better than Sony Xperia Z and Nexus 7
Asus released the FonePad 7 just months ago but a new generation is already on its way to the market. The second generation of the FonePad 7 is now here. Following the release in February at the MWC trade in Barcelona, the IFA 2013 made way for the Asus FonePad 7 2014 Edition - it definitely outshined its predecessor.
Improved Tablet and Phone for the Same Price
The FonePad 7, as the name implies, features a 7-inch display. It is a tablet and a phone in one. For people who like the idea of using a phone similar as big as a DVD case, then this is the device to choose. The 2014 Edition FonePad serves as the refreshed version of the tablet released last February. It has the same name only with much better specs.
Asus is offering the product for a similar price as well.
One thing which may surprise people in different parts of the globe is the camera across the board. The previous model did not sport any camera so this is a definite improvement. The new FonePad runs on a dual-core 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2560 processor plus 1GB of Ram. It also features the HSPA+ 3G which is a faster connectivity option compared to the first one. The connection can reach up to 42Mbps, out and about.
Hardware
The latest FonePad weighs 340g and 10.5mm thick. Asus included a smudge-resistant coating. However, there are some sources saying people should still be careful about the glossy screen and back. It can still accumulate prints more than preferred.
The screen offers a 1,280x800-pixel display and in-plane switching (IPS). Asus included the IPS technology for improved daylight visibility and wider viewing angles. The device also has two speakers on the front ideal for playing games, watching movies and listening to just about anything.
As for the camera, the FonePad comes with a 5-megapixel autofocus front camera. The back camera shoots at 1.2 megapixels. This is perfect for video chat and taking self portraits. The primary camera can shoot photos as fast as 100 photos in an instant. It can also capture high-definition 1080p video.
FonePad runs on a 3,950mAh battery offering up to 28 horus of battery life even with talking and other activities. The battery can last up to 35 days when the tab is left on standby. Video playback can extend up to 10 hours. Consumers can pick from three memory choices: 8GB, 16GB or 32GB. Users can choose to add a microSDHC card as well.
Software
The tab runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. It features a home screen that allows users to go to their favorite apps and widgets instantly. A user will not have to open an application just to access this lot. Asus includes an exceptional Floating App feature that allows people to open a maximum of six apps simultaneously. The same principle is behind Samsung Galaxy Note's multitasking feature. This is an ideal way of taking advantage of a wide screen.
