New Killer Features to Watch for on iPhone 6, iPhone 5S Release Date: iOS 7’s Square App Icons & Easy File-Sharing via NFC
Apple's iPhone 6 and iPhone 5S will sport flatter interface on their respective release dates thanks to the Jony Ive-redesigned iOS 7, new reports said.
One solid clue of this eventuality is offered by Apple Insider, pointing to the square app icons now in full display over at Apple's official developer site portal.
The new iOS look went live Tuesday this week but the same report noted that the changes are yet to be written on stone. Normally, Apple requires developers to upload their app icons with sharp corners, which are then transformed to the rounded icons seen in iOS devices by simple coding tweaks.
"The company could simply be replacing or tweaking the filter that was previously automatically applied to icons once they were uploaded by developers," the same report explained.
Nonetheless, the revised look is in line with recent suggestions that Mr Ive has opted for a simpler iOS UI that will do away with the 3D-effects seen in previous versions of the mobile operating system.
One analyst, according to BGR News, called the Apple platform overhaul as "far superior to anything that is available out there."
Global Equities Research analyst Trip Chowdhry based his assessment on hundreds of interviews conducted earlier this year, in which most tech experts expect the revamped iOS 7 to show off "a very simple, clean and uncluttered UI."
Also anticipated as one of the killer features to arrive with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 5S separate landings is the easier file-sharing function between Apple devices through the use of near-field communication technology or NFC.
Apple product releases this year are more likely to include the capability with the recent approval of a patent technology that allows the smooth syncing of date between two devices.
This particular feature will facilitate "a method of performing the simplified data transfer may include initiating communication using near field communication (NFC) between two devices," the Apple patent was quoted by Apple Insider as saying.
Samsung has earlier showcased a similar offering with the Galaxy S3 called S-Beam, which enables two users to exchange music and movie files by tapping/pairing their handsets.
Bearing these so-called killer features, Apple is likely to release the iPhone 5S on September at the earliest while the phablet-size iPhone 6 is not due to arrive until June 2014.
