Images found online showed Amazon's Kindle Fire successor which is rumored to be introduced next week.

The photos picked up by The Verge show a device whose shape is largely unchanged from the previous generation of Kindles, although the button below the display has vanished and the bezel has darkened significantly.

The Verge reported that the device "higher contrast, high resolution, integrated lighting, and eight weeks of battery life."

The images, apparently part of a promotional package aimed at French-speaking people, refer to "Kindle Paperwhite," although it's not clear if that is the device's new moniker. The name may also refer to the unit's new display, which seems brighter than the Pearl E Ink display used on previous Kindle generations.

This could be possible since Chinese news agency China Times published that manufacturer Quanta is already working on a first batch of Kindle Fire 2 devices last month.

Rumors claimed that one of the Kindle Fire 2 tablets will have a 1024x600 display and no camera, and another with a 1280x800 screen with a camera. By the end of the year, a third 7-inch tablet could add 4G to the higher-end model, and a subsequent 8.9-inch device would pack on a 1920x1200 display.

Moreover, a report from Bloomberg said that the company is planning to deploy its own smartphone that will battled head on with Apple's iPhone and Google's Android platform.

According to the sources from Chinese manufacturer Foxxconn, Amazon is working on its first smartphone. Foxconn and Amazon had a business relationship when manufacturing the Kindle products. Thus, this is simply expanding the business.

Bloomberg also added that Amazon's next step is to acquire a number of wireless technology patents in order to defend its product from lawsuits, which are highly common among smartphone makers like Apple, Samsung, HTC and Google.

The new Kindle Fire tablets may be on the way since Amazon.com said that it has sold out of its Kindle Fire tablet computer amid expectations of a new model for the holiday season. The company is expected to announce new Kindles at a new product launch event on September 6.
