New 'Legend of Zelda' game coming to Wii U in 2016, along with 'Twilight Princess HD'
During the Nintendo Direct event it was officially announced that a new “Legend of Zelda” game would be coming to the Wii U sometime in 2016. While the company didn’t share too much info about the game itself, a short snippet of the game was shown, though it still didn’t reveal much.
From what can be seen in the video below, it merely shows “Legend of Zelda” protagonist Link riding a horse in one of the open fields of Hyrule. This only lasts a few seconds, with 2016 eventually showing up on the screen, telling fans to expect it next year.
According to an article from Techno Buffalo, the new release date for the Wii U “Legend of Zelda” is interesting, as the game comes out in the same year the new NX console from Nintendo will be released. It’s possible that this new “Legend of Zelda” game will be playable in the NX, or that the NX will have backwards compatibility for Wii U games.
It should be noted that “Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess” came out on the Gamecube and the original Wii simultaneously. “Twilight Princess” acted as a farewell title for the Gamecube and a launch title for the Wii.
If the new “Legend of Zelda” game comes out for the Wii U and NX at the same time, it’s possible that the game will act as a farewell title for the Wii U, similar to “Twilight Princess” for the Gamecube. It remains to be seen if Nintendo plans on supporting the Wii U after the NX has been released, so fans will have to wait and see.
Speaking of “Twilight Princess,” GameSpot confirmed that Nintendo would be releasing “The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD” for the Wii U as well. Also announced was a new Amiibo for the game, which is Link in his werewolf form from “Twilight Princess,” which is one of the title’s new features.
Both games are planned for a Wii U release on 2016, though no official date has been given yet. The new “Legend of Zelda” game was originally planned for a 2015 release, but was delayed because the developers supposedly found a way to make the game better.
