There have been some odd characters in the “Mortal Kombat” franchise. Six armed monsters, female ninjas with beast mouths, ice powered ninjas, the list goes on. So for the next iteration in the series “Mortal Kombat X,” it might seem quite normal to have a gun-slinging cowboy like Erron Black join the roster.

Erron Black was first unveiled in the “Mortal Kombat X” companion comic currently being released by DC Comics. The character made his debut alongside new characters D’vorah and Kotal Kahn, which will further add to the speculation that black will join the roster. The particular issue he appeared in was the fourth issue in the digital series and the second issue in the print comic that collects two digital issues per book.

Appearance-wise, Black seems to have what it takes to be in a "Mortal Kombat" game. While the character is a cowboy shrouded in mystery, he wouldn’t look to out of place with a Monk and his razor hats, or a C-list actor trying to make a name for popularity’s sake in the Kombat arena.

Rumours for the character joining the roster started with the website Lazy Gamer. Despite the name, the site has worked hard and actually provided gamers who might not be reading the comics some screenshots of Erron Black. Other sites like IGN and Gamespot also covered the possibility of Erron Black becoming a playable character afterwards.

Lazy Gamer also pointed out that gun-toting characters aren’t a particularly new feature for NetherRealms. After all, the previous game the company worked on – “Injustice: Gods Among Us” – featured two characters well versed with gunplay in Deathstroke and DLC character Lobo. Both characters were very effective in long-range situations and were soon favourite fighters for a good number of “Injustice” fans.

“Mortal Kombat X” is expected to come out on April 14, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and the PC. The game currently has 14 confirmed fighters, with characters like Spawn and Predator rumoured for guest star roles in the game. Similarly, God of War protagonist Kratos was an exclusive character for PlayStation 3 users, while Freddy Kruger from the “Nightmare on Elm Street” movies would be available as a DLC character.
