New Sony Cyber-shot Camera Connects to Smartphones!
Sony launched two cameras during the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin. The Sony Cyber-shot QX100 and QX10. The cameras come in a lens shaped body and can be attached to a smartphone.
The Sony Cyber-shot QX100 is larger of the two and has a sensor, processor and lens. The specs for the camera are comparable to the Cyber-shot RX100. It comes with a spring clip that can be attached to the back of a smartphone. The Sony Cyber-shot can also be used independently, without the smartphone. It is a fully functional camera and not a smartphone accessory as the images of the phone may suggest.
The Sony Cyber-shot QX100 comes with a Carl Zeiss lens, 20.2 MP Exmor R CMOS sensor, 3.6 x optical zoom and a control ring. It also comes with a Sony G lens, 18.2 MP Exmor R CMOS sensor and 10x optical zoom.
Both the cameras can be connected to a smartphone running on either iOS or Android platforms using Wi-Fi. If the smartphone is NFC enabled, it automatically launches the Sony's PlayMemories Mobile app. The app can be used to control the camera.
The app also helps control the shutter and focus on the camera. The images shot by the camera can be transferred to the smartphone, edited and shared. It comes with a tripod mount at the bottom allowing users to shoot a self portrait et al.
The Sony Cyber-shot QX100 comes with its own battery; the charging of the battery is done by Micro USB. The camera also has a Micro SD card slot giving the user the option to expand the memory.
The Sony Cyber-shot QX100 is expected to come in two colour variants - Black and White. Both the cameras should be available for sale by the end of September. The Sony Cyber-shot QX100 will be priced at $500 and the smaller QX10 will be priced at $250. Both the devices are expected to sell well during the upcoming holiday season.
There has been some concern by a few analysts who question the logic of needing to carry two devices for the sake of taking pictures. According to some analysts, customers would prefer to have a single device - a smartphone with more functionality.
The Sony Cyber-shot QX100 has been a much anticipated device. There had been many leaks of the device just prior to the launch.
