The New Twitter: Everything You Need to Know
Twitter, the Internet's most widespread microblogging service, has gotten a major upgrade, debuting a new look and nifty new features that promise the utmost efficiency in service.
The revision is the most thorough and extensive change Twitter has done to date; giving its site a facelift, revamping apps for both iOS and Android, and even its freshly acquired social-media integrator, TweetDeck.
Twitter reveals it intends to make its interface more appealing to new users, while providing existing users better practicality. That being said, surely a huge part of the modification has to do with acclimatizing ways to generate revenue. Twitter has recently been testing methods to direct users toward its advertising services.
The redesign brings with it chances to steer users in the direction of sponsors, particularly through the new branded pages. These sections received minor to major overhaul:
Home: This is your old news feed, just a bit improved. Remember how media in tweets like photos and videos could only be viewed on the side; now you can see them right in the tweet (you still need to click). You'll also be able to get information about @replies and retweets for a specific tweet by choosing "Open," which is a new option. Twitter says your feed will now look "consistently" across platforms which was a problem in the old design.
Connect: This is where all your @replies and mentions can be found. To be honest, there aren't a lot of things that are new here, but Twitter says you can type in someone's handle will let you learn more about the person and connect immediately.
Discover: Twitter appears to have given a boost to its search functions and put the results here. More than just a space to look for trending topics and hashtags, the Discover feature will recognize stories and trends based on your connections, location and language.
Me: This is the Twitter profile, made bigger, neater and with more activity saved. Your information now appears on the left instead of right.
