A Google Glass application developed by New Zealand developers will allow users of Google's wearable tech to travel back in time and see the streets of Christchurch before they were damaged by earthquakes.
University of Canterbury's Associate Professor Mark Billinghurst said the new Google Glass application will allow people to time travel to the pre-earthquake time. User of the Google Glass app will also see panoramic images taken after earthquakes hit Christchurch.
Google Glass is a breakthrough technology in which users will "wear" the device like a pair of glasses so users can view information presented before their eyes.
The app called the CityViewAR app was built by the University of Canterbury's HIT Lab research institute. The new app for Google Glass was taken from the developer's earlier version specially made for mobile phones.
When people wearing Google Glass will walk through Christchurch where there are now empty spaces. the app will show 3D models of buildings that used to be there.
Mr Billinghurst said, there are several parking lots where historic buildings used to be. This will allow Google Glass users to look at the parking lots and see the beauty of historic buildings once more through the application.
Not only does the app take people back in time to see Christchurch before it was hit by an earthquake, it will also move people forward in time to see what happened to the city after the quakes. The photos are tagged via GPS so they can be matched according to their locations.
Aside from the app's availability in Google Glass, New Zealanders can also download it using their iPhones and Android devices.
