New Zealand Pastor Logan Robertson Prays That Gay Author Jim Marjoram Will Commit Suicide
A New Zealand pastor is making the news for the wrong reasons. Pastor Logan Robertson has told gay Christian author Jim Marjoram to kill himself, and called a gay reporter “filthy fa----.”
Marjoram wrote a book titled “It’s Life Jim” and emailed about 400 churches in Auckland to promote gay-friendly religion. The book describes his struggles and how he has coped with being a gay Christian man.
Robertson was one of the recipients of those emails. And clearly, he did not agree with the author. Instead of just telling him that he has a different view about homosexuality, or even just ignoring the email, Robertson went to great lengths to insult Marjoram, telling him that he prays the author would kill himself.
“We are not interested in your filthy lifestyle or book,” the pastor wrote back to Marjoram, including bible quotes a few times in his letter. “I pray that you will commit suicide, you filthy child molesting f--.”
Although Marjoram expected backlash from his book and his emails, he was still shocked at the level of hate and vitriol in the Westcity Bible Baptist Church leader’s reply. He added to GayNZ that he expected hostile reaction from the ultra religious groups in the U.S., but not in New Zealand, where people are less discriminatory.
“I’m well aware that many churches in New Zealand are actively discriminating and condemning of LGBT people, but this is the first I’ve heard anything this blatantly abusive and threatening. Very surprised really,” he said.
Robertson is just one person who perhaps represents a few more, but Marjoram isn’t alone as well. He has received messages of support online from people who found the pastor’s views as shameful and un-Christian.
Robertson isn’t backing down, though. He repeated his words to One News, saying he thinks every single gay person “should be put to death.” He isn’t going to be the one to kill people, though as “Christians shouldn’t be doing it.” However, he expects the government to do it since it’s its job.
Before he gave the ominous message, he also called the paper’s openly gay reporter, Matt McLean, a “filthy f-----,” wishing that McLean would also commit suicide.
In an interview with the Daily Mail Australia, Robertson repeated his sentiments on homosexuals, saying that 99 per cent of people aren’t gay so only a tiny minority are homosexuals. The media is just constantly “trying to cram it down our throats” so that it appears there are more gay people than there really are.
“All homosexuals are paedophiles, all f--- are paedophiles, it’s not offensive to me, you’re either offended or not,” he told the paper. “The government should put them to death and I’m not calling them gay, because that means happy, they are f---.”
His thoughts are shared by the National Leader of Baptist Churches of New Zealand, which says the Westcity Bible Baptist Church is not part of the Baptist Union of churches, and that Robertson’s views would never be endorsed by the group.
