The chance is high for a Cyber Monday release date from Google this week but it will not be a Nexus 10 2. Instead, the tech giant could be rolling out its big-size tablet in a more compact from - likely in 8-inch or 9-inch build.

The report from Android Origin makes sense considering that Google came out with the first Nexus 10 to support its escalating tablet bicker with Apple. Now that the regular iPad has been morphed into the slimmer iPad Air, it is only incumbent upon Google to match the modifications.

The Air, which carried over the 9.7-inch screen size of the original iPad, is slim and powerful, according to reviewers. Android rivals will have to undergo major overhauls to at least keep pace with the giant leap that Apple has shown with the iPad Air, was the general consensus coming from analysts.

And to start off, Google needs to ditch most of the heft that came with the original Nexus 10 build. Enter the slimmer form-factor that was first hinted by a leaked image of the Nexus 8. There were reports that tablet will be modelled after the 8.3-inch LG G Pad.

The rationale behind the shift is, Google is abandoning the large-screen tablet arena to focus on tackling with the iPad Mini, now on its second edition with faster processor and boosted screen resolution thanks to its Retina display panel.

The Nexus, after all, did not performed well in sales since hitting the market in the second half of 2012.

Still, some analysts argue that Google would not just run away from its tablet rivalry with Apple. So the company would simply play the game that at present is dictated by the iPad maker.

That would mean following Apple's pace at the interim and to start off make the bigger Nexus to be as alluring as the iPad Air. Apple trimmed down but Google will go the extra mile by shrinking the Nexus 10 down to the 9-inch from.

Most likely, the final screen profile would be 9-inch plus and should that be the case, a rebranding can be expected in the same way that Apple dubbed its latest big tablet as iPad Air. Perhaps, Nexus Lite will do for now.

Regardless, the Nexus 10 successor promises to be a worthy iPad opponent with the latest rumours suggesting that Nvidia Tegra is also in contention to fire up the powerful vanilla Android tablet. Whether Tegra or Snapdragon 800 would be on board, the slate should bring hours of maximum enjoyment and productivity on any of the processing chips.

Said to run on Android KitKat 4.4 and to be built by Asus or LG, the Nexus 10 2 release date is expected on Cyber Monday going LIVE via Google Play Store this week, the likelihood of which grew stronger as the first Nexus 10 went out of stock and with the chance of the old device becoming available again next to nil.
