Nexus 4 can potentially sell well, except it can't - at least not yet. Instead of pacifying irate buyers who couldn't catch the device in stock, LG and Google just achieved the opposite with its new product ad.

Both the 8GB and 16GB Nexus 4 are still out of stock in the Google Play Store. Tech reviewers have concluded that the stock availability of the device does not really indicate it has been a best seller. Perhaps it could sell really well, but Google is obviously unable to strike while the iron hot. And the blame is pointed at LG.

When will Nexus 4 be available?

"Dear all, I know that what you are going through is unacceptable and we are all working through the nights and weekends to resolve this issue," writes Google managing director Dan Cobley on G+ recently.

"Supplies from the manufacturer are scarce and erratic, and our communication has been flawed. I can offer an unreserved apology for our service and communication failures in this process."

Why create a good product and not secure an effective supply chain? LG and Google are not first-timers in rolling out a device; the Nexus 4 situation has been puzzling to say the least.

Nexus 4: What's not to like?

The new product ad is even more frustrating because the product has been reviewed well. And buyers already know why they want it: Qualcomm Snapdragon S4, 1.5 GHz quad-core Krait, 2 GB RAM, 8GB/16GB storage, 4.7-in diagonal IPS screen display at 1280×768 px (320 ppi), and the latest Android Jelly Bean.

There were complaints about the lack of SD slot, among other things, but the Nexus 4 still appears to be a good buy to many. What's bad is they just can't buy it yet.

Nexus 4 comments on YouTube reflect common sentiment

LG and Google can't blame the buyers. Some of them have been waiting for over a month. See sample comments below. (Minor edits done for clarity.)
