Google rolled out its Android 4.4.4 KitKat update initially to Nexus devices like the Nexus 5. The update promised to bring a whole range of APIs and new features. While random bugs about the update on devices like Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 have already been reported, it appears Google has yet to address the issues permanently. Many users still complain about problems in their handsets.

Google's Android Kitkat update series such as the 4.4.2, 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 all concentrated on addressing bugs and fixing security flaws. However, it appears these updates have not addressed all problems. Nexus 5 users still complain about poor battery life, data connectivity issues, GPS problems and application crashes.

Battery Problems

Nexus 5 has been associated constantly with battery drain. Many reports have already pointed the battery issue starting from the Android 4.4.2 update down to the latest Android 4.4.4. Users can address the issue through Safe Mode. This can eliminate the problem if the drain is due to a third party application. However, some may have to uninstall the program completely.

There are also third party applications that can monitory battery usage of smartphones like BetterBatteryStats. It is also preferable to have root. If the application has root access then it will be able to track the wakelocks. For those who are confused about the UI then it is best to stick to Wakelock Detector. Additionally, some users reported that choosing "Device Only" under Location settings can solve the issue.

Data Connection Problems and Program Crashes

Data connection problems have been raised before. In fact, according to Android Origin, a fix for it has been included in the wish list of many Android users. Nonetheless, it remains a problem. Turn on and off the Airplane Mode. This fix is temporary. Users should check their hardware to be sure. It is also recommended to do a factory reset.

Users have also reported applications crashing for programs like general Email and Exchange services. One way to address the problem is to clear the cache, switch the device to safe mode and install the program once more. Another way is to delete all email accounts and remove it from the device administrator section. Clearing the cache should address the problem.

GPS Problems

GPS issues have also been prevalent for Nexus 5 users following update. In order to check which applications are problematic for the GPS, users should switch their devices to Safe Mode. A factory reset may also be in order. There are third party applications that can test GPS issues in a smartphone. People can use these to avoid further issues.
