Nexus 5 Android 5.0 Lollipop Problems Arise with WiFi Networks and Battery Life
Google just released the Android 5.0 Lollipop update on its Nexus line a couple of days back but users already started noticing problems following installation. Among the problems cited include battery drain and Wi-Fi issues. Is upgrading the Nexus 5 to Lollipop a bad idea?
The official release of the Android 5.0 Lollipop has yet to reach other Android devices but developers have already cited problems about the build. According to Business Insider, developers discovered a bug preventing Wi-Fi connection. This is further supported by posts on Google's forum where some developers expressed their concerns about their Android 5.0 devices failure to connect to Wi-Fi networks.
According to Phone Arena, the forum thread began last October 17. The latest post was dated November 13, a day following the reported release of the Lollipop to Nexus devices. The developer who posted the original complaint claims that the Nexus 5 used can save the WiFi network following access and password input. However, it does not connect to the network. More complaints poured into the thread with others saying that the issue has been present starting mid-October.
Majority of the developers facing WiFi and battery issue have their Nexus 5 running Android 5.0 Lollipop build LRX201. To clear things, the build is the official firmware release and not the developer preview edition. So far it appears that the Nexus 5 is the only device having problem with the update.
The Nexus 6 came with the OS upgrade as well but still has yet to show signs of any issues. For those who have Nexus 5 and have not updated, availability of the download may depend on the region and network provider. People can also check the update manually by opening Settings > About device > System updates > Check now. Other manufacturers like Samsung and HTC promise to bring the latest OS sometime early 2015.
