Google often rolls out its Android updates to Nexus devices initially. With the release of the Android 4.4.3 KtiKat update, many Nexus users especially Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 owners complained about more problems than fixes in the firmware. In another move by Google to provide an Android fix, the company released shortly the Android 4.4.4 update for Nexus.

Previously, Android users anticipated the release of the Android 4.4.3 KitKat update for its bug-fixing promise. However, instead of fixing the bugs and problems associated with the previous OS updates, it brought more issues. According to Android Origin, Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 encountered the most problems according to users. Some of these issues include lagging apps, screen freezes and connections.

Google claimed the update will offer an improved Exchange ActiveSync support, reliable and enhanced battery performance and a variety of bug solutions. The opposite happened. Here is a rundown of issues reported initially by users who updated to the firmware:

- WiFi and 3G connectivity problems

-Random reboots especially with Nexus 4. This problem has also plagued devices updated to Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

- Notification problems

-Battery drain

- Lagging or problematic Google Play Store

- Unknown Exchange ActiveSync errors

- Redesigned Android dialer lags

The bigger problem is that some of the issues cited by users did not exist previously in Android 4.4.2. A quick fix is to reset the device through Settings > Backup & Reset > Factory data reset. In most cases, a systems upgrade can also do the trick. This is where Android 4.4.4 update may come in handy. Almost immediately following the chaos that ensued from Android 4.4.3, Google released the over-the-air firmware for Android 4.4.4. While the update does not make big promises, it claims to have important security fixes and other resolutions.

The security fix is also related to the HeartBleed bug that plagued many OpenSSL platforms. According to a report by The West Side Story, an XDA developer committee plans to release an Android 4.4.4 firmware compatible with devices rooted previously for the Android 4.4.3 software.
