Nexus 5X mic glitch threatens sales
This is a massive mistake in the design process
The latest Nexus flagships, the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, are among today's toughest and most powerful Android smartphones. But it doesn’t look like its accessory makers are having the same success.
Unfortunately, some cases made for the Nexus 5X prevent its users from getting the complete Nexus experience at a high level. Instead of helping improve the quality of the device, some case models ended-up covering the device's primary microphone. Clearly, this is a massive mistake in the design process of the faulty cases.
These mistakes indicate accessory makers are struggling to maintain the high quality of the newest Nexus flagship devices.
This issue was first posted by a Reddit user. Brucesnb, a Redditor, was the first to discover that the Spigen Ultra Hybrid case designed for the Nexus 5X completely covered the device's primary microphone located on its bottom edge. Photos of how the case obstructed the hole were posted on Reddit.
Shortly after Brucesnb posted the photos online, other Nexus 5X users eventually realized that the cases they were using also covered their devices' microphones. This issue seems to be a common complaint by users that bought cases released by accessory makers earlier this year. Among these manufacturers are Spigen, Verus, Diztronic and Cruzerlite.
Although the microphone-related issue hasn’t been verified, many users have taken to the Internet to say they’ve already informed accessory makers about the problem. Accessory manufacturers will soon send replacement cases for clients that bought faulty Nexus 5X cases, according to Tech Times.
In the meantime, though, users can simply drill a small hole on the portion of the case that covers the microphone. This is only a temporary solution since customers aren’t supposed to drill holes into the cases of their phones. Talk about a huge fail.
