Nexus 6 vs. LG G3 – Specifications, Features, Release Date And Price Comparison
The Nexus 6 has recently been launched and the release date is set for November 12. This next-generation device can be availed from all major U.S. carriers, namely AT&T, US Cellular, T-Mobile, Sprint and also from Google Play store and Best Buy. Plus, the pre-order window starts from October 29. Meanwhile, the mighty LG G3 was released in June. Readers who are interested in purchasing the LG G3 or the latest Nexus 6 should check out this comparison.
Display, Design And Size
The Nexus 6 comes with a humongous 5.9-inch AMOLED display complemented by a Quad HD resolution of 1,440 x 2,560 pixels and pixel density of 493 ppi. The LG G3, on the other hand, features a relatively smaller 5.5-inch True HD-IPS + LCD display but the resolution is same as the Nexus handset, which trickles down to 534 ppi pixel density.
When it comes to exterior design, the Goliath-like Nexus 6 looks identical to the Motorola Moto X handset. Other than the plastic exterior, there is a metal frame covering the sides of the smartphone, providing a premium-look to the gigantic device. Furthermore, two front-facing speakers are housed to amplify the sound effect on the device, reports Phone Arena. Meanwhile, the LG G3 features a plastic exterior, but the metallic-effect on the plastic body offers the much-loved premium look to the handset. However, the highlight of the LG G3 is the killer display. The combination of the mammoth screen and the sky-high resolution provides great viewing experience. Also, the rear panel is removable, writes Tech Radar.
Speaking of size, the thickness and weight of the Nexus handset are 0.40-inch and 184 g, respectively, whereas the LG device is 0.35-inch thick and weighs 149 g. Therefore, the Nexus 6 is comparatively thicker and much heavier than the LG G3.
Hardware, Software And Memory
The Nexus 6 is powered by the superior and latest quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 805) Krait 450 processor, clocked at 2.7 GHz and Adreno 420 for graphics. On the other hand, the LG handset is powered by a relatively inferior quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 801) Krait 400 processor, clocked at 2.5 GHz and Adreno 330 GPU. While the Nexus smartphone is backed by a solid 3 GB of RAM, LG offers 2 or 3 GB of RAM choices based on the in-built storage option.
Moving on to the software side, the G3 runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS, while the Nexus 6 runs on the latest Android 5.0 L OS. The stand out point about the Nexus line of devices is that, they offer stock vanilla Android experience. The latest Android Lollipop follows minimalistic design philosophy combined with an impressive overall user experience, according to Phone Arena.
Additionally, the G3 offers 16 GB and 32 GB of in-built storage, whereas the Nexus 6 goes one step further and provides 32 GB and 64 GB options. It is worth mentioning that, the LG G3's 16 GB model comes with 2 GB of RAM, while the 32 GB model comes packed with 3 GB. Also, the G3 supports microSD card for expansion up to 128 GB, whereas the latest Nexus device follows Google's tradition of not providing microSD card support. Nonetheless, readers should note that the in-built storage capacity is increased in the latest Nexus handset to compensate this deficit.
Camera And Battery
Interestingly, both the handsets sport the same 13 MP primary camera unit with dual-LED (dual tone) flash, 4K video recording support and optical image stabilisation. Moreover, there is a 2 MP secondary shooter for selfies in the Nexus handset, whereas the G3 comes with a 2.1 MP unit. With G3, LG has tweaked the camera software very efficiently. Some of the unique features include "Laser Autofocus Sensor" and "Selfie Mode." The laser autofocus sensor is super fast that it utilises only 0.276 seconds to focus an object/person, according to LG. Lastly, the G3 camera supports voice activation. As far as the battery goes, the LG smartphone houses a good Li-Ion 3000 mAh unit, while the Google device features a Li-Po 3220 mAh unit.

Additional Features
1. Both the smartphones offer wireless charging facility. Apart from the standard connectivity options, both the handsets provide NFC and 4G LTE support. Additionally, the LG handset offers Infrared port support, whereas the Google device doesn't.
2. The LG handset comes in Metallic Black, Silk White, Shine Gold, Moon Violet and Burgundy Red, while the Google device offers Midnight Blue and Cloud White hues. Speaking of SIM, the LG G3 employs micro-SIM, while the Nexus 6 supports nano-SIM.
3. In theory, both the handsets do not come with water- or dust-proof exterior but the Nexus 6 compensates the lack of IP67/68 certification by offering a water-resistive coating. Therefore, the Nexus handset can survive water splashes, however dropping the device underwater for longer time will damage the handset, says Phone Arena.
Price And Release Date
The Google Nexus 6 will reportedly be priced at US$649 that roughly translates to AU$740. As noted earlier, the handset can be pre-ordered starting October 29 and the release date is set for November 12. Meanwhile, the LG G3 (16 GB, 4G LTE) variant can be purchased for AU$529.95. Readers should note that, the price of the G3 has come down to a great extent from the time the device was released.
